How Concenture Serves Dallas-Fort Worth

Headquartered in Houston, Concenture has expanded where and how we support clients. Families in Dallas-Fort Worth now work directly with Chris and Angela, our advisors serving the area. You can meet with your advisor in Dallas or by video, with the entire team guiding every plan they build.

Most of the decisions that bring people to us impact several parts of their finances at once. A company sale, for example, affects your tax bill and your investment mix, and it can shape how much you’re able to spend comfortably for decades afterward. We work through those connected decisions with you as one team, so you aren’t left to reconcile advice from several different professionals on your own.

Meet Your Dallas-Area Advisors

Chris and Angela focus on different kinds of decisions, so you can start with whichever one fits yours. Either way, the rest of the Concenture team is part of your plan.

Chris Davis

Christopher C. Davis, MBA, CEPA®

Managing Director & Senior Wealth Advisor
Areas of focus: Business exit strategy | Pre & post-liquidity planning | Retirement & income planning | Divorce & wealth transition

Chris works with business owners who are preparing to sell or step back, and with families handling a large one-time payout such as the proceeds of a company sale. He has built and sold two companies himself, so he knows firsthand the questions a founder faces before and after an exit. He also assists executives whose pay has become too complex for a simple plan.

Chris has more than 20 years in wealth management and capital markets. He has held leadership roles at independent advisory firms, family offices, and institutional firms, and founded and managed a family office. His background also covers private equity and real estate, and his CEPA® (Certified Exit Planning Advisor) designation reflects his focus on business transitions. At Concenture, Chris leads the firm’s expansion into the Dallas market.

Angela K. Wascom-Gantt, CIMA®, CPWA®

Financial Advisor
Areas of focus: Retirement & income planning | Investment management | Financial planning | Wealth management

Angela partners with individuals and couples who are preparing for retirement or already living in it. Much of her work centers on the move from saving to spending, when a career’s worth of savings needs to become a retirement paycheck. She helps clients decide how Social Security fits alongside their other income, and she manages their investments with that income in mind. Angela also has a particular interest in working with women who want a more active, informed role in their family’s finances.

Angela brings more than 30 years of financial services and investment management experience, including nearly two decades as a Market Leader and Director at BlackRock. She holds the CIMA® (Certified Investment Management Analyst®) and CPWA® (Certified Private Wealth Advisor®) designations, two advanced certifications focused on managing investments and planning for families with significant wealth.

Who We Serve in Dallas-Fort Worth

The people we work with are usually facing a decision they only get to make once or twice. Here’s what that tends to look like for the households our Dallas-area advisors serve.

Approaching or Living in Retirement

Many people we meet near retirement worry that a single wrong move could undo decades of careful saving. Once the paychecks stop, your savings have to start paying the bills, and many people have never had to plan that part before. We help you decide which accounts to draw from first and how Social Security and any pension fit in, so you have a spending plan you understand.

Two risks call for early attention. A market drop in your first few years of retirement can do more harm than the same drop later on, because you may be selling investments to cover living expenses at the same time. If you stop working before 65, you’ll also need health coverage until Medicare begins, and that gap can cost more than people expect. We build both into your plan from the start.

The years just before and after retirement are often when your tax bill is most open to planning, because income tends to dip before required withdrawals from retirement accounts begin. Couples often ask how one spouse would manage if the other were no longer there, so we walk both of you through the plan and make it something either of you could carry forward.

Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

For many owners, most of their wealth is inside a company they can’t spend. Getting ready to sell starts well before a buyer appears, with an honest estimate of what the business is worth and a clear sense of the income you’ll need from the proceeds. The structure and timing of a sale also shape how much of the price you keep after taxes, so we bring your CPA and attorney in early. Once the sale closes, the questions change. You may be investing a large sum of cash for the first time while also deciding what you want your days to look like without the business.

Executives and Established Professionals

After 25 years of stock grants and matching contributions, you may own far more of your employer than you ever intended. Senior roles at the region’s large employers often pay in ways that are harder to plan around than a salary, such as restricted stock, stock options, deferred compensation, and bonuses paid whenever the company decides to pay them. We can spread sales of company stock across several tax years and help you decide when to sell shares as they become yours or when to use your stock options, with your target retirement date in mind. If you moved to Texas for your career, part of your stock-based pay may still be taxable in the state where you earned it, so your CPA should review that before you sell.

Women Navigating Financial Decisions

Losing a spouse or navigating a divorce brings enough challenge without the added pressure of deciphering accounts managed by someone else. Many of the women who seek our guidance are stepping through those transitions, receiving an inheritance, retiring after a long career, or simply choosing to take a direct seat at the table in decisions a partner handled in the past. We work at your pace and explain your options in plain language, so you can feel fully confident in every decision you make. Angela brings a dedicated focus to this work, backed by the strength of the full Concenture team.

Wealth Management Services for Dallas-Fort Worth Families

Selling appreciated stock raises this year’s tax bill, which can change how much you’re able to draw for retirement income and, over time, what you leave to your family. That’s why we coordinate these services with each other.

Financial Planning

What should a financial plan cover?

Your financial plan connects every part of your money, from monthly cash flow and insurance to major future decisions. We review it regularly as your life evolves, so your strategy always reflects where you are today rather than where you were years ago.

Retirement and income planning

How do I turn my savings into a retirement paycheck?

We help you combine savings, pensions, and Social Security into a retirement paycheck, and we plan the order of your withdrawals with taxes in mind. Our retirement planning page explains our approach.

Investment management

How are my investments matched to my plan?

Your portfolio is built around the job your money has to do, whether that’s funding income next year or growing for your heirs. Our investment management team builds and monitors portfolios for Concenture clients, wherever they live.

Business owner and exit planning

How far ahead should I plan for selling my business?

Often several years. We help owners prepare for a sale, a succession, or a gradual step back while there’s still time to shape the terms, then plan for their investments and income after the transaction. Chris leads much of this work for Dallas-area clients.

Tax-aware planning

How do taxes factor into each decision?

We look at the tax effect of each decision before you make it, from a Roth conversion (moving money from a pre-tax retirement account into a Roth account) to the timing of a stock sale. Your CPA handles tax preparation and tax advice, and we coordinate with them throughout the year. Concenture does not provide tax or legal advice.

Estate and legacy planning

Will my accounts pass the way my estate documents say?

No matter what your will says, beneficiary designations and account titles often decide who receives an account. We work with your estate attorney to line them up with your documents. Our legacy and estate planning page covers how that coordination works.

Why Work With Concenture

One Coordinated Plan

We weigh every recommendation against the rest of your finances. If you ask whether to use your stock options this year, for example, we look at how the decision affects this year’s taxes and your retirement date, and we check it against your estate plan before we answer.

A Team Around You

Your Dallas-area advisor is your main point of contact. Behind Chris and Angela is the rest of Concenture, a fee-based firm headquartered on Memorial Drive in Houston. Our founder, Robert Gilliland, CRPC®, spent more than three decades advising clients, including over 10 years as a Resident Director at Merrill Lynch, before starting Concenture as an independent firm. Our investment team and client service staff work on your plan too, so it doesn’t depend on any one person.

Investment Management and Planning Together

Say you decide to retire two years earlier than planned. Your portfolio now has to start producing income two years sooner. Because the same firm manages your plan and your investments, your advisor can reposition the portfolio when the new date is set.

Guidance That Evolves

Our Dynamic A.G.E. Approach is how we keep your plan current. Adjust is about revisiting the plan as your life changes, whether that’s a move, a new grandchild, or a health event. The Grow piece aims for growth that keeps pace with inflation over a retirement that could last 30 years. Ensure, the third piece, focuses on turning your savings into a retirement paycheck and planning for the risks that could interrupt it.

Planning Questions Common in Dallas-Fort Worth

Moving to Texas for a job doesn’t completely erase your prior state’s tax reach. If you moved from a state with an income tax, deferred compensation or stock awards earned there may still carry out-of-state tax obligations. Your official residency date can also affect how a pending bonus or business sale is taxed. While Texas has no state income tax, that advantage changes strategies like Roth conversions, which function quite differently here than they do in high-tax states like California or New York.

Illiquid assets require a longer runway. If most of your wealth is tied up in a business, professional practice, or commercial real estate, you can’t liquidate it with a single click. Valuation is more complex and turning those assets into cash takes time, which is why exit and transition planning needs to start well in advance.

How Working With Concenture Begins

The first conversations are there to help you decide if we’re a good fit, and you’ll hear what we see in your situation before you commit to anything. Our three-step process page covers each stage in more detail.

01 Get to know each other.

We start with an introductory call (by phone or video) about what’s on your mind and what you’d like to be different a year from now. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you.

02 Map out where you stand.

Next, we gather your accounts, benefits, business interests, and goals, and look at how they affect one another. Seeing everything side by side often shows where one decision affects another, such as a bonus that changes this year’s tax bill.

03 Determine the right path forward.

We walk you through our recommendations and the reasoning behind them. If you decide to move forward, we explain what working together would look like from there.
